What does it mean to be holy?

In modern parlance, we “do lunch” with friends, and we “have conversations” about everything from work to children, from sisterhood to cooking. We “meet up” for social activities and for religious events.

One of the joys of reading Torah year after year is finding the relevance and connection to our lives in new and different ways. As Rabbi Ben Bag Bag said in Pirke Avot, “Turn the Torah over and over for everything is in it.

It’s a season of change for many in our sisterhoods ―transition from school to summer, from existing leadership to new leadership, and from a calendar full of activities to a time when we can slow down and reflect a bit.

At the beginning of each Sisterhood meeting, our women take a few moments to set an intention. It helps us focus on the personal commitment we each have to be present for each other. Kavannah is the Hebrew word for intention, and generally refers to being
