Resolutions for Sisterhoods

January 6, 2022Kate Franklin

We want to wish you a happy and healthy secular new year! With the new year comes the opportunity to reflect on the past, take stock of what’s important, and set goals for the future.  Last year may not have been the relief from COVID-19 we all had wanted, but it showed us that with a strong network of WRJ sisters, we can still find connection in sisterhood, spirituality in studying Torah, and purpose in helping others through social justice work. We are excited to see what the new year has to offer and want to remind you that WRJ has the resources to help you achieve your sisterhood resolutions for the upcoming year.

If your resolution is to dive deeper into advocacy work…

1. Read this blog entitled “One Hour of Advocacy: Identify, Educate, Prepare, Act, and Follow-up” by E2A (Education to Action) Committee Members, Dana Spiel and Beth Levin for ideas on how to incorporate more social justice work in 2022.

2. Subscribe to Advocacy Matters, WRJ’s latest e-newsletter dedicated to bringing you updated advocacy information from WRJ on a regular basis without flooding your inbox.

3. Register to attend the “Freedom to Vote and Reproductive Rights: The Intersection and The Impact” webinar on January 12 at 7 pm ET to learn about the interconnectedness of these two issues from expert panelists and what we, as Jewish women, can do to make an impact.

If your resolution is to find more professional development opportunities…

1.  Visit the WRJ Speakers Bureau page on our website to request a speaker to bring to a sisterhood program!  For more information on this program, read Becky Markowitz’s blog piece here.

2. Attend Helen Gottstein’s webinar training on how to nail a PowerPoint presentation on January 20 at 12 pm ET.

3. Bring in a specialized consultant to cover topics from budgeting to conflict management to programming to social media and more.

If your resolution is to participate in more WRJ programs…

1. Bookmark our events calendar page to stay up to date on all upcoming programs

2. Follow our Facebook and Instagram accounts to get real-time reminders about  all upcoming events

3. Join our WRJ Online Programming Yammer Group to see what's being offered at the district and local level, too!

If your resolution is to bring more members into your sisterhood…

1. Check out this blog piece entitled “Engaging Young Women with WRJ” by Rachelle Weiss Crane for strategies on reaching out to potential members.

2. Engage the next generation of Reform Jews by investing in programs geared towards college students. For programmatic inspiration, read Lori Motis’s piece on “Connecting with Families during the Holidays.”

3. Have a friend who is interested in becoming active in WRJ activities? Send them to our “Join WRJ” page for more information on how to find a sisterhood in their area.

Kate Franklin is the Programs and Communications Associate at WRJ.  She supports WRJ communication and marketing campaigns, advocacy initiatives, and Board programming.  Originally from outside of Philly, she holds a BA in Theatre and Communications from Northeastern University, where she focused on creating art aimed at ending sexual violence on college campuses.  She moved to NYC in September 2021 and loves baking three-layer cakes, seeing musicals, and obsessing over any random dog she passes on the street.
