Reform Jewish Women Condemn Supreme Court Decision Undermining LGBTQ+-Inclusive Reading in Schools

In response to the Supreme Court decision in Mahmoud v. Taylor, Rabbi Liz P.G. Hirsch, Chief Executive Officer of Women of Reform Judaism, released the following statement:

"As Reform Jewish women, we are the 'people of the book,' and we believe in the power of education to reflect the full diversity of our communities. Allowing parents to opt their children out of reading LGBTQ+-inclusive materials in classrooms under the guise of religious liberty undermines both inclusion and understanding. As the LGBTQ+ community faces attacks from all levels of government, it is important that reading materials depict the full diversity of our communities. This decision is a direct affront to the LGBTQ+ community and the values of dignity, equity, and justice."
