Day of Action Advocacy Plan Programs in a Box

What is the WRJ North America Day of Action and why are we doing it?

The WRJ Day of Action, taking place on April 12, 2026, is a North American-wide effort for WRJ members, sisterhoods, women’s groups, and friends to take part in meaningful advocacy and social action. On this day, we come together—each in our own communities but with a shared purpose—to live out WRJ’s values of sisterhood, spirituality, and social justice. Whether it’s a hands-on project, an educational program, or direct advocacy, the Day of Action shows the power of our collective voice to create change.

What if my sisterhood/women’s group wants to do a project on the Day of Action that doesn’t align with WRJ’s high priorities?

That’s okay with us! While WRJ’s social justice high priorities guide WRJ North America, your community is welcome to focus on what matters to you and your local network. WRJ will provide a series of Programs-in-a-Box, or replicable programs, on several subject areas that align with our high priorities and the inherent efforts of our organization. If you or your group decide to pursue a topic outside of reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence, or voting rights, we ask that your advocacy approach still be through a gender lens as part of WRJ’s Day of Action.

Does WRJ offer financial assistance to run a program for Day of Action?

Sisterhoods and individuals can apply for a microgrant, a $500-$2,500 grant that helps engage women around timely issues in the pursuit of social justice or advocacy, including any work related to WRJ resolutions or high-priority issues. The next grant cycle will open on January 5, 2026 and will run of rolling basis through June 30, 2026. We encourage you to apply!

If, for whatever reason, our Day of Action event can’t take place on April 12, 2026, what should we do?

Though April 12, 2026, is our official Day of Action, we understand that calendars can get packed, events are scheduled far in advance and sometimes in conflict, and you can’t always get the number of folks to turn out as you wished due to other obligations. If April 12 doesn’t work for you, your sisterhood, or women’s group, there are several options we suggest.

  • Hold the space for a Day of Action-related advocacy program or project during your District Conventions and then plan for something like a continuation or next step on or around April 12.
  • Do something before April 12, pending your calendar, and host a reflection or debrief day on April 12!
  • Plan to do something on your own on April 12!
  • Spend April 12 with others organizing and planning for another day in which you can participate in action together.

How can I find out if community members near me are holding a Day of Action event? Is there a way to connect with other sisterhoods or women’s groups who are hosting programs?

If you and your sisterhood/women’s group are organizing a Day of Action event, please make sure you sign-up. This will help us know who is organizing and where Day of Action events are happening across North America! That way, when someone reaches out—by emailing WRJ Social Justice Manager, Rena Crawford—curious about how to find out who near them is participating in Day of Action or wondering if they can spend it with others, we have information on what’s happening where.

Do we have to participate as a sisterhood/women’s group, or can individuals join in too?

Yes, individuals can certainly participate in WRJ’s Day of Action! While we hope sisterhoods and women’s groups will organize collective projects, individual WRJ members, congregants, and friends are welcome to participate. The Day of Action is about collective impact, and every action—big or small—counts.

What kinds of resources will WRJ provide to help us plan?

WRJ will share Programs-in-a-Box on reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence, and voting rights, plus additional resources on related issues like antisemitism and climate justice. These priority issues align with WRJ's current advocacy plan. Each box will include Jewish text framing, sample program models, advocacy ideas, and links to outside resources to make planning simple.

Is there a way to share our stories after the Day of Action?

Absolutely, and yes please! WRJ encourages participants to send photos, videos, and short reflections. Please share photos by either emailing to photos@wrj.org or tagging WRJ on social media. We will not be using any hashtags for this event. To share a narrative about your Day of Action, and/or if you would like the opportunity to have your Day of Action narrative highlighted in the future, please email WRJ Social Justice Manager Rena Crawford. These stories will inspire other communities and may be highlighted in WRJ communications.

How can I stay involved after the Day of Action?

Day of Action is just the beginning! You can build on your project by turning it into an ongoing effort, connecting with other WRJ groups for shared learning, or using it as a springboard for advocacy throughout the year. WRJ will also continue to provide action alerts, resources, and training opportunities so you and your community can stay engaged and keep making an impact.
