The National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods has consistently called upon its members to translate into action its commitment that all citizens must participate in the elective process. This issue was a focal point in the resolution (Equality for Women) adopted at the 34th Biennial Assembly, November 1983, which stated, “we encourage Sisterhood women to become more actively involved in the electoral process by creating programs which train women in electoral politics activity; volunteering for local, state and national campaigns of candidates who support the broad spectrum of issues that NFTS supports; and cooperating with other organizations working in the area of women and electoral politics.”
The current trend of voter apathy as demonstrated by the outcome in the Illinois state primary has shown the urgent need for a recommitment to the idea of active and knowledgeable participation in the electoral process articulated in the 1983 NFTS Resolution.
Therefore, the NFTS Executive Committee urges each Sisterhood to undertake programs that will provide motivation, information, and education to meet this goal.
