Sara B. Charney is the Immediate Past President of WRJ and the organization’s first Canadian President. Sara joined the WRJ Board of Directors in 2005 and thereafter held many positions on the District and North American levels. Some highlights along the way include being the Co-Chair of Local Arrangements for the WRJ Assembly in Toronto in 2009, Co-Chair of the WRJ Centennial Mission to Israel and Berlin in 2013, and representing WRJ at the 80th commemoration of Kristallnacht in Berlin in 2018. In Sara’s words, “I soon realized that WRJ could offer what I had always longed for but never knew existed: spiritual connection, a welcoming community of progressive Jewish women, and a forum to embrace a life of tikkun olam.”
Sara holds a Ph.D. in Italian language and literature from the University of Toronto where she also taught for many years. Her three adult children, their partners, their dogs and her own cockapoo, keep her life full and meaningful!
