NEW YORK — In response to Donald J. Trump being elected as the 47th president of the United States, Women of Reform Judaism released the following statement:
"Like in the story of Esther, we’ve once again witnessed women reaching high levels of leadership, yet not breaking that strongest glass ceiling. Esther was a queen who saved her entire people when she stepped up just for this moment, and still, her power was severely limited by the patriarchal structures of her era that continue to this day. Women face barriers in nearly every profession, and this election was one more challenging example of how much further we still need to go. Women of Reform Judaism will continue to elevate the voices of women worldwide, working to remedy these obstacles for future generations.
"Further, we express deep concern over the potential impact on the issues close to our mission such as reproductive health care and violence against women in the years to come. In line with our legacy, we will continue our fight for bodily autonomy and respect for individual dignity for all.”
